4. Repeat Step 3 with the second blue mix, making sure to leave some white areas.

Not all pieces turn out looking great for beginning painters, and the question often arises, “Can I paint over my piece once it has dried?” Certainly you can; however, because the paints are transparent, the original lines and colors will show through a second coat. For example, if you have painted yellow circles and decide to over-paint the whole piece with blue, you will still see faint circles, only now they will be slightly green. Heat setting the first painting and then adding more colors can often give exciting effects, but repeated layers of paint result in a more fragile adherence of paint since it’s not bonding to cloth anymore but only to another layer of paint. This means that the top layers may dull through repeated washing or rubbing.
